Notability: Smarter AI Notes App Reviews

I run my own private tutoring business for engineering students and I use Notability to teach my classes and organize my lecture notes. I love the software. I just wish there was a simple way of drawing straight lines. A simple icon that I can click on where any line I draw get converted into a straight line. It is not efficient for me to have to go into figure mode to this.

Awesome drawing features with a pencil. Shapes should be better integrated, like Paper App. Really needs a time stamp to write a new page in a note. Good text typing features, but should be able to box text and wrap it... Importing through Google really skews PowerPoint presentations... Imports work well, but need to be improved, like iAnotate...

I love the app! Good for note taking at school however, please add the note navigation and search for the iPhone! Thanks!!

I loved this app on ios. Now i hate it since i started to use it on my macbook. Syncing between ios and mac os is the most horrible part. I enquired notability developer he gave me some solutions... Which caused duplicates!!! If you have two duplicate i will become 4! Duplicates wastes disk space on my macbook. Worse than that, deleting duplicates costs time and efforts needlessly... This drives me crazy and regret the time i purchased this app. A disappointing app, notability, you threat me with my valuable documents on you... So that i do not remove from my ipad and macbook.

Used this app for a year on an older iPad and loved it. Converting power points to PDFs and writing on them was seamless for any of my classes. Id strongly recommend using notability if youre using a third party stylus, if you primarily type instead of hand write, and record as you write in lecture. However I have upgraded to an iPad Pro 9.7 and am now using good notes 4. Ive found it receives a lot more updates and is more comfortable to use with an Apple Pencil. These are expensive apps but are big steps towards paperless!

Ive used this app for the last 3 years for school. In my case, my teachers upload PowerPoint slides for every lecture so I just simply import them which can be done straight from my student portal. The added bonus of this app is the Mac app. I can open it there and also have another note open on my iPad. There have been bugs throughout my experience but nothing major and they are usually addresses fairly quickly. If you want to lose carrying notebooks around Id recommend this app. Ive been using an adonit Jot Touch to write notes and dont have an issue.

Some users reported lag on the iPad Pro but I havent experienced any so far.

The note taking part works really well. However, navigating from page to page using links is unstable and shuts down the app.

This is not a bad app. It has several features that are useful. However, it is way too simplistic. I like a certain style of document, and I cant make it that way. You must follow the annoying template. There are limited fonts to choose from. Personally, I prefer Apple Pages. It is the same price, but much more powerful for note-taking.

Bought this by mistake and it costs way too much smh

icloud sync does not work sometimes.

Works really well, well organized file management, searchable texts, great pencil integration. Would like to be able to open two documents side by side and to be able to just share pages with annotations on them though.

Please add this feature as it seems so obvious any note taking app should have this.

I really enjoy using this app. Its amazing for all my classes! Definitely the best note taking app out there, however, I really really wish it could be possible to search handwritten text similar to Evernotes Penultimate. Additionally I think it would be great to be able to add comments or stickers or anything to specific sentences to mark its importance for an upcoming exam.

Great app overall but since the iOS 10 update, notability will no longer import pdf files (basically the only type of file it CAN typically import) so the app is virtually useless. I rely heavily on this app for annotating my notes in class so this is a huge issue. Im willing to update my review when this is fixed and i really hope it is fixed ASAP.

I like the app a lot and I use it on iOS and macos. Its good and nice features, but on iOS it crashes way too often. Disappointing when I lose my notes and recording(s).

This is the ONLY app I use for all of my university classes. I only bring my iPad to class and Notability has everything I need. Ive never thought to myself, "wow I should have brought my laptop today" or anything similar because the capability it has is great. Worth every single penny. Importing PDFs and being able to annotate and highlight has saved me so much time and money instead of having to print 20+ page articles since theyre all available for download now. I wish however that there was a kind of dual screen mode where I could have two documents up at once. Being able to type notes while reading an article would make the app so much more productive.

I keep coming back to Notability hoping for a presentation mode which is desperately needed for my work. I absolutely love this app, however without a presentation mode back to Goodnotes for now.

Being able to draw straight lines in a flash (new feature) is simple, yet saves time and makes note-taking easier (and the notes look so much cleaner). This made such a difference in my Physics and Calculus classes, allowing me to replicate graphs that the teacher drew (combined with the copy and paste feature)! In addition, the new colours added are so great when differentiating different points on illustrations! 10/10 for this update!
